What is a PAT Test?

Hi All!

Recently we received a message asking what is a PAT Test and why is it so important. So this post is to help anyone who has the same question about PAT testing.

PAT test aka Portable Appliance Testing is used to ensure electrical appliances are safe to use. The test conducted is a mixture between visual inspection and using a specific PAT testing tool.  If the item has passed the test they will be issued with a label stating it has passed (usually in green) whereas if it has failed it will have a label stating it has failed (usually in red). A PAT Test is annually (every 12 months) and should be conducted by a person with electrical qualifications.

A PAT Test is not a legal requirement by UK law however the Electricity at work regulations 1989 state that any appliance at a place of work must be maintained to a safe condition. The Party Pioneers believe that a PAT Test is a great way of making sure the equipment is maintained properly.

Many venues in the UK require proof that a PAT Test has been completed before a DJ/band/entertainment providers can perform. The venue has the right to refuse entry if there is no PAT test which is why we recommend you choose a provider with an up to date PAT Test.

Hope this answers any questions you had about PAT testing.

Much Love All!
